Frankie, who has been playing hard to get this entire winter, finally decided that she wanted to be momma again. She built a humongous nest and deposited four kits within. One unfortunately was DOA, but the other three are thriving. Looks like harlequin and tricolour. Litter of three, confined within a HUGE nest of fur (plus tons outside the nestbox). Dandi is proving to be a very nice young doe though she is a bit on the skittish side. I had someone ask on Facebook why I did a mixed breeding. My Dutch buck is on the shy side and takes his time wooing the ladies. AND if a doe is on the skittish side gets very quiet and sits in the corner. So then I'd normally leave them together for a week which settles them down. BUT Dandi does not share space well. She's a self-contained lass who doesn't like other bunnies too close to her. (hence her slight skittishness). So I introduced her to all my boys and she thought Wasp was the cat's meow so ... we now have kits off Dandi for a first time litter. Sometimes you gotta do what the ladies request eh? We have one broken black, one solid black and one black with a white nose and white foot. Watch Me GrowThree kits born of a very tentative breeding. Two darker, one lighter. Well-made nest. Watch Me GrowI originally not planned for AJ to have another litter. I'd been breeding her specifically to one buck and wasn't keen on the offspring overall, and thought she should move into a pet home. I had a gal interested who ... well... that just didn't work out. I decided to try her with a different buck.... and it took a couple of tries but we have FOUR babies! Little chonkers they are, all light coloured. Expected all to be harlequin or tricolour. AJ is a VERY lightly marked chocolate harlequin so I'm hoping to get chocolate tri out of these two. :) Time will tell! Watch Me GrowSo an old friend of mine stopped in tonight. Seems guinea pigs aren't quite enough for him and his partner so he added some bunnies into their household. The girl will be added into their home and the boy into his sister's household. A day late, but four healthy kits. Big kits for hollands. A huge nest, if it gets warm again I'll have to pull some of the fur off. Right now its fine with this cooler rainy weather we are having. Look to be broken and tricolour. Time will tell for sure. Lost one early, as sometimes happen. (broken) Lost a second that just couldn't get going well. (black) That leaves me with two chocolate based kits! Today I met a lady who didn't look old enough to have a 24 year old daughter. I was so taken aback with surprise. It's good eh? to be surprised once in a while?
Anyways, she picked up this good natured Holland Lop girlie off Frankie and Wasp. She was born Feb 4 and is probably very close to her adult size already. Wasp is barely 2.5 lbs, and Frankie is about 3.5 so the chances of her getting very big aren't high. She's an easy-going lass, I expect her to be a lot like her momma when she matures. Frankie is a bit of a goof (in a good way) and is so easy to handle and hold and nothing really fazes her. She's out of a litter of five. Some pics from her new digs. :) My friendly little man Ears has finally found a home to call his own. I thought for sure he'd be the first to find a home with his bubbly personality and floppy ears... and here he is, second last in the group to find a home.
He's a sweet-natured boy born on Feb 4 to gregarious momma Frankie and busy boy Wasp. He is so much more like his momma than his pops! He grew up in a litter of five, most of his siblings are tricolour, but Ears is a magpie. He's a super sweet lad and I hope he does really well in his new home. These kiddos are all holland lops This solemn little lad, the smallest in the litter of three, from Zesty and Volly moved into his new home today. He'll be part of a family with four children. This unflappable boy is so much like his daddy, I was so tempted to keep him. His colour is broken sable. He's a Feb 20 boy. Kisa's two youngsters via Wasp, born on Feb 11, are nice babes. The buck is a quiet lad, much like his momma, the doe is busier... like daddy was at this age. I recommend getting the doe spayed as early as you can since momma went through the terrible teens and avoiding that would be fantastic. This girlie is out of Frankie and Wasp. Frankie is a gregarious, goofy girl who likes her pets and LOVES her food. I expect this girlie will grow up to be much like her momma. Born on Feb 4.
From a litter of five. The New Costco in London is an EXTREMELY busy place. OH MY. Just a bit mind-boggling.
The young lady who came to greet me has an October born lop girlie at home that she's hoping my girl will eventually bond with. Time will tell for sure eh? This is a Frankie/Wasp baby, born Feb 4 out of a litter of five. She's a sweet-natured lass. She should completely lop! Her dad was a bit late in his lopping, so I'm expecting some of his kiddos to be the same. |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
